Bike Waste Essay Draft

For literacy, we learned about waste and what the impact is on the world. And then we wrote about waste in an essay. Here is my draft and see you next time.

What was your first glance looking at the picture above? The picture is of a humongous bike graveyard in China. Crazy right? Bike waste isn’t something that you would really think about. Bike waste consists of the parts of a bike so the metal frame, brake wires, mudguards, plastics, and rubber. If you look at the newer bikes and the disc brakes, it is made out of metal, so more metal instead of plastic and rubber on newer bikes. And the newer bikes have more parts that are available so will last longer and less waste. Each year we are wasting useful parts from damaged or unwanted bikes. We as a civilization throw away 15 million bikes each and every year. In the following paragraphs, we will talk about what bike waste is, what parts we can reuse or repair and how the world can reduce this major problem.

Bike waste consists of the parts of a bike but the main parts of a bike are the scrap metal, the rubber from the tires, brake wires, and plastic is the definition of bike waste. Looking at the bike graveyard, what was your first reaction. Now imagine how much bike waste if we reuse the bike parts, not very much.

A bike has quite a lot of parts but the main parts are the frame, pedals, seat, rims, wheels, chain, and cogs. Now we can refurbish some of these parts. The metal frame can be smelted down and be re-shaped and can be reused. But the plastic guards will snap easily and will just end up in the landfill but the newer bikes have more maintainable parts and won’t have as much plastic so more metal. So the newer bikes are more reliable and have more parts to replace for cheaper. The seat on a bike, cogs, and rims can easily be refurbished and be put back up for sale.

To reduce this major problem, just like I stated in the last paragraphs, we can refurbish say half of the bike while smelting down the metal/frame, sewing the seats back together, gluing the pedals back together, reconnect the wires and smelt the brakes down to re-shape. Most importantly, we are wasting loads and loads of money. Mow you have to work hard to get money so why just throw it away.

In conclusion, we are wasting too many reusable parts on a bike like a frame and other parts like the seat and pedals. Bike waste is the broken parts of a bike that’s thrown away so a lot of waste a year. Reusing the parts may not fix the problem but it won’t completely fix this problem
