Wearable Arts

For inquiry, we have been learning about waste and recycling plastic. I did a Maori costume that I did with Kobe and Riley. This is our speech.

Did you know that it takes 200 years for just one straw to break down, just one?
What will you do now if you go to a restaurant and they give you a straw with a glass? You don’t even need it, you can just drink out of the glass!
Straws are an unnecessary part of society.
Businesses are starting to make a change. McDonald’s, New World and Countdown are all doing their bit to reduce the waste.

The Maori have a strong connection to our land, they call it Kaitiakitanga. It was their duty to protect and keep the land healthy and prosperous.

Our art piece represents the Maori connection to the land, showing the traditional dress of a piupiu, but made with straws. The ‘waste’ band is made of single-use plastic bags.

Lots of places are realizing that if we do a little thing, it will make a big difference in the environment.
What little thing will you do?

For term one math we have been learning about geometry. Here is a slide about geometry.
