ISS Minecraft Module

For literacy, we have been learning about the International Space Station (ISS). We have had to watch a video that taught us about what all of the modules do and what the space station is actually trying to achieve. 

The ISS is a satellite that can capture images or information that we can't get from the Earth without the ISS. There are 16 different modules and all have different purposes. My module takes photos of space and some rockets go and take some samples of the rocks and dust.

We had to create a timeline of what achievements the space station has achieved. Then we had to add on a module on Minecraft that has a purpose. I chose mine to be an observation room where the cameras collect samples and the rockets go and collect specimens from the moon. Here is a photo of my own space module on Minecraft. See Ya!!!

Science Experiment 101

For literacy, we have been creating our own experiment and I chose to make a diy lava lamp. We had to make everything like the hypothesis and even the procedure. I haven't conducted the experiment yet but it will look like the photo below. Here is my plan.

The Question: Will the full tablet affect the length of the effect instead of breaking it in half and topping it up?

Independent Variables: Amount of wet ingredients Dependent Variables: Size of reactant Control Variables: Brand of reactant Size of bottle Temperature of water Temperature of room

Materials that will need to be obtained: 1 Litre clear cylinder narrow flat bottle 3/4 cup of water Canola oil Berocca fizzing tablets Blue and Red food colouring Phone or timer Camera 1/4 measuring cup

Risks/Dangers Present, and how I will ensure safety: No dangers really but if the oil is spilt on the floor someone could slip.

1) What makes your question interesting?  How have you used research to help guide your question?

I am unsure that the size of the reactant will affect the length of the effect as the procedure suggests to top it up with another half tablet. But I thought that the size of the area is larger. But with the larger area, it might just dissolve faster as if one part goes, than it will just keep on breaking apart.

2) Where are you gathering your research from?  List your sources (you must have three or more).  Make sure that you and your partner have read your articles/watched your videos as you will need to be prepared to discuss them.

3)  Why did you choose to use the variables you did in your question.  Why will you measure your experiment this way?

I chose the Berocca because they are simple but effective and will have pretty cool results because the Berocca is a type of fizzy tablet so it will be fizzing up while the bubbles are rising. I think that the more area will keep the effect going longer.

Our Hypothesis, and why we are choosing it based on our research.

I think that the Berocca will last longer than the half-tablet as the area is larger and from my research, I kind of think that it will last longer. Because the larger the area, it will last longer I think. My Hypothesis I think that the fizzing tablet will last longer as the area of the tablet is larger and will not dissolve as fast. But it may just dissolve way faster or way slower.

My Procedure

Pour the 3/4 water into the clear cylinder water bottle using a funnel Use a measuring cup or funnel to slowly pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s almost full with the water. You may have to wait a few minutes for the oil and water separate Add 10 drops of food colouring to the bottle The drops will pass through the oil and then mix with the water below. Get a timer ready to time how long the effect will last. Break a seltzer tablet in half and drop the half tablet into the bottle. Watch it sink to the bottom and let the blobby greatness begin and start the timer when you drop the tablet To keep the effect going, just add another tablet piece. For a true lava lamp effect, shine a flashlight through the bottom of the bottle. Stop the timer after the effect has finished. Record the results. Empty the bottle and clean it and dry it. Repeat steps 1 through 4. Now this time, you are putting in the tablet, but put it in whole and start the timer. After the effect has stopped, stop the timer and compare the results. Now this time repeat steps 1 and 4, and then do
